Following on from their previous album, Hangin’ Tough, which is often considered their best work to date, New Kids On The Block mixed together several genres such as pop, dance, and rock to create a variety of catchy dance-floor fillers and slow ballad-style tracks. Maintaining a similar style and range of themes from previous albums, critics gave mixed reviews but fans loved ‘Step By Step’ and the tour and marketing approach made it a commercial success unlike anything released by the iconic boy-band.
