Wry, tender, and quietly devastating—Out Of Sight is a luminous new chapter in the songbook of Melbourne’s underground pop poet, Guy Blackman. A deeply personal album cloaked in soft rock ease and barbed lyricism, Out Of Sight sees Blackman return with his first solo material in over a decade. With themes of love, sexuality, and vulnerability explored through vignettes set in gay saunas and online confessionals, this is songwriting at its most unflinching and human. Laced with humour and heartache, the album’s melodic core is enriched by delicate string arrangements from Grand Salvo’s Paddy Mann and backing vocals by Laura Jean.

Recorded across Melbourne and London from 2022–2024 with contributions from Liam Parsons and Stefan Blair (Good Morning) and Liam Halliwell (Snowy Band), Out Of Sight is lush and expansive, while remaining intimate at its core. Highlights include a languid duet with Julien Gasc (Stereolab, Aquaserge) on “Let Me Let You Let Me Down,” and poignant reflections like “Men’s Hair” and “Always Gonna Love You More.”

Known as a founding force of Chapter Music and a champion of the Australian indie scene, Guy Blackman has shared stages with everyone from Joanna Newsom and Jens Lekman to Stereolab and Kurt Vile. This record reaffirms his place as one of Australia’s most singular and affecting songwriters.
